I went to the beach today and got a pretty good sunburn (the worst is on the neck). I’m going to Sea World on Friday and don’t want to go with a sunburn. Is there any way to reduce the redness of a sunburn?

Yes. Witch Hazel. It’s cheap and it does the trick. Just soak some paper towels and place them on your body. Lie down and watch television until the witch hazel absorbs the burn.
A person in a grocery store check out line told us about this and we tried it not knowing whether it would work. It did and we’ve been using witch hazel ever since.
First, you’ve got to stop the burn. Wet a washcloth with vinegar and apply it (gently) to the burned areas. Yes, it will smell bad for a little bit, but don’t jump in the shower or you’ll run the risk of removing oils and moisture in the skin. Secondly, time to hydrate. Healthy skin comes from the inside out, so drinking water is very important. Finally, once the skin has cooled to the touch apply aloe vera regularly. The fresher aloe is the better it will work, so forget the stuff that been in the back of the medicine cabinet for six years.
And don’t forget to put on covering attire and SPF at Seaworld. Your exposed skin will be even more likely to burn while it is still healing.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! I’ve never tried witch hazel, but I suspect it would help with the pain and redness. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated, and apply aloe vera gel and/or unscented moisturizer as often as possible, and try to keep the area cool. When you bathe or shower, use cooler water than you are used to. An antiinflammatory like ibuprofen or aspirin will also help. If it’s extremely painful, an OTC numbing agent like Solarcaine (aloe with lidocaine) can help relieve the pain and will help moisturize at the same time.
When you go to Sea World, be sure to cover up and wear a sunscreen with a high SPF, at least 30, and reapply frequently. I like a couple of Neutrogena’s newer products quite a bit, like the Ultra Sheer dry-touch stuff and the Cooling Mist spray (which is great because I can spray it on my head and protect my scalp without getting all goopy). Make sure whatever you use has both UVA and UVB protection.
aloe
get the jell kinda and put it in the fridge..
then when its cold put it on the burn
it sooths the pain
and heals it fast
yes the best thing for a sunburn if you are not allergic to it is to take some aspirin. the asa (aspirin) will thin the blood and help the burn heal. also use some moisturizing lotion to help from pealing. good luck.
